A hot print, cold flows, and a wait for the Fed
Approx. 4 min read · Figures are approximate and rounded at time of writing.
The short version
It was a weak week. Bitcoin drifted to around $81K, inflation came in hotter than expected, and spot ETFs saw money leave rather than arrive. None of this rewrites the long-term story, but it does explain the mood.
Inflation surprised to the upside
Headline CPI printed 3.7% against a 3.6% consensus. A tenth of a point sounds small, but markets had been leaning on the idea that inflation was cooling enough to give the Fed room to ease. A hotter number pushes back on that, and risk assets, crypto included, tend to feel it first.
ETF flows turned negative
Spot bitcoin ETFs recorded net outflows over the week. Flows are a useful sentiment gauge, since they show how traditional allocators are positioning, but a few red days are not a verdict. We'll keep watching whether this is a pause or a trend.
